Plant Spirit Medicine: A Guide to Making Healing Products from Nature

This book is about reconnecting with nature and the plants in our environment; it's also about learning to listen to the plants and applying what they have to tell us to mend that disconnection. Indigenous peoples from all around the world have worked with plant spirits for thousands of years, and this is how they came to know what specific plants were used for.

Plant Spirit Medicine Making can help heal the parts of our soul and psyche that so desperately need it at this time in the story of humanity.

Plant Spirit Medicine will guide you to listen to the plant spirits and how to access their medicine available.

Plant connections and ritual

When making Plant Spirit Medicine, we work in ritual and with the plant spirit throughout the whole process. They are present and will guide you. It is also important for you to actually participate in the activities, as you need to connect to the plant to understand them and for them to want to work with you. It’s easy to become complacent or rush things once you’ve made them a few times. You can certainly speed up the process once you know what you are doing, but when starting out it is best to take your time until you feel what is going on. The most important thing to remember is: Be sure to ask the plant for its healing and wisdom and be respectful at all times. Intent is key.

Plant extraction methods

Now we’ve reached the fun part of the book! The DIY section. This is where you will find everything you need to get started with basic Plant Spirit Medicine making. First we will look at the different methods for plant extraction, then once we have our extractions we can make products from them. The extraction methods really don’t change and you will see information that is varied on how long you should leave them to extract, but there really is no hard and fast rule as every plant is different. Trust your intuition and back up what you do with research.

Harvesting and drying herbs

Picking and drying your own herbs really is a lot of fun. Not only do you get the satisfaction of acquiring a nice little stash of herbs that essentially cost you nothing, you become very attached to your herbs because you have formed a relationship with them. If you have grown them yourself, it is even more rewarding as you have nurtured them and watched them grow. Harvesting them is exciting and then having them hanging from your ceiling or on a drying rack permeates the room with their energies. This used to be a process that was a part of our lives; sadly it is not so much now. It is another reason why we have become so disconnected from the land and nature.
